DeForest Area Rotary donates for inclusive play equipment at Fireman's Park

posted May 14, 2018, 8:48 AM by Debbie Brewster   [ updated May 17, 2018, 12:53 PM ]

In September 2017, the DeForest Area Rotary Club presented the Village of DeForest with a $10,000 donation to help fund inclusive play equipment for the redesigned Fireman's Park.  The donation was the result of fundraising efforts by club members, coupled with a matching grant from the Rotary District 6250 Foundation.

Fireman’s Park is an 11 acres park uniquely situated in the village’s downtown. The park is
classified as a community park serving all 9,000 + of the village of DeForest residents and the
surrounding neighboring communities. Currently, the primary focus of the park is on active recreation.
With this redesign project the village is recasting the park as a cultural, community gathering place. The
proposed design calls for an updated park pavilion with restrooms, 4-season community room,
performance plaza and bandshell, and a focus on inclusive play equipment to name a few.

Thanks to the $5,000 donation, the DeForest Area Rotary Club is helping to purchase inclusive play equipment, which is currently under served in the village. According to Kelli Bialkowski, Village of DeForest Parks & Recreation Supervisor, "Without additional funding and facing budget limitations, this component of the overall project is vulnerable. The Rotary grant can assist in prioritizing inclusive
play equipment in this first phase of park redevelopment."

The DeForest Area Rotary Club will be sponsoring two DAHS students again for the 2018 World Affairs Seminar. Students should let their school counselor know of their interest. Selections will be made in March.
