DeForest Area Rotarian Mary Christianson was recently honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. This award, one of the highest honors Rotary offers to local Rotarians, recognizes appreciation for a substantial contribution to The International Rotary Foundation’s humanitarian and educational programs. Rotarians designate a Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of The Rotary Foundation. Christianson has been a member of the DeForest area club for 12 years, and has served as president and secretary during that time. She has co-chaired the local community blood drive for several years on behalf of the DeForest club, and has volunteered her time for many other service projects.

The Paul Harris Fellow award is named for Paul P. Harris, who formed the world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, in Illinois, USA, on February 23, 1905. Harris, an attorney, wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth.

Adopt-a-Class visits
Each year the DeForest Area Rotary Club "adopts" Mrs. Mason's 2nd grade class at Windsor Elementary School. In addition to raising money together for children in Haiti, local Rotarians provide monthly visits to the school, enjoy lunch together, and talk with students about their job and/or hobby. Tony Vallon (Grobe & Associates) visited this past fall. David Grove (Grove Law Office) will be visiting with students tomorrow (Dec. 17). Steve Mundt has volunteered to visit in January. Looking for volunteers for the rest of the school year. Click here for more information about the DASD Adopt-a-Class program. |

District Governor Dean Dicksinson visits July 8
DeForest Area Rotary Club members were proud to host the Rotary District 6250 Governor at their July 8 meeting. Dean Dickinson, who serves 60 Rotary clubs located in southwestern Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota, visited the club to talk about international Rotary initiatives, encourage continued membership growth in the DeForest area, and to present a check for $100 to the Rotary Foundation in the name of the DeForest club.
The DeForest club raised the $100 by capturing the District 6250 traveling bell. Seven DeForest Area Rotary Club members traveled to the Rotary Club of Reedsburg's 7:00 am meeting on July 1 to capture the Rotary Traveling Bell. The District Traveling Bell is intended to foster more interaction between clubs and Rotarians in district 6250. |
DeForest Rotary Captures the Bell!
The bell originated in Reedsburg because it is the first club that the District Governor visits beginning in July of 2009. The bell will stay with the DeForest Rotary Club until a "contingent" of Rotarians from another club makes a visit and takes the bell back to their club. |
